    This session focuses on fundamentals of performance and scalability design, testing, and optimization, with an emphasis on distributed architectures and data driven applications.  The special case of caching will be given special attention, and a number of best practices and techniques related to caching in .NET and ASP.NET will be demonstrated, along with their effects on overall application performance.

    Steven A. Smith runs developer communities ASPAlliance.com and DevAdvice.com, which provide Internet developers with resources they need to learn new techniques and solve problems quickly.  Steve is also CIO of Lake Quincy Media, a marketing company focused on developer products and services.

    Steve’s credentials include being a Microsoft Regional Director, a Microsoft ASP.NET MVP, and is a member of the ASPInsiders and the INETA Speaker Bureau.  Steve has been a regular speaker at DevConnections conferences since 2001.  Steve has contributed to several books on ASP.NET, the latest being Beginning Microsoft ASP.NET AJAX from WROX.  He has spoken at DevConnections since fall of 2001.

    Steve is an Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran and lives in Ohio with his wife Michelle and daughter Ilyana.
