Scott Guthrie is a General Manager within Microsoft's Developer Division. He runs the development teams that build: CLR, ASP.NET, WPF, Silverlight, Windows Forms, IIS 7.0, Commerce Server, .NET Compact Framework, and the Visual Studio Web and Client Development Tools. His individual technical contributions include:
  • ASP.NET Web Forms Page Architecture,
  • ASP.NET Web Services Infrastructure,
  • ASP.NET Compilation System,
  • ASP.NET Distributed Session State Infrastructure,
  • ASP+ Deployment Architecture,
  • ASP.NET Reliability System, and
  • the ASP.NET HTTP Runtime Architecture.
Prior to working with ASP.NET, Scott was a member of the IIS and Windows NT development teams.

For a taste of what to expect, check out the amazing keynote presentation Scott did at MIX 07! (Fast-forward to 23 minutes in.)

Stefan Schackow is a manager on the web platform and tools team at Microsoft, and works with the new application services stack that shipped in ASP.NET 2.0. He owns the Membership, Role Manager, Profile, and Web Parts Personalization features and is currently working on extending these services to both smart clients and the ASP.NET AJAX platform. Prior to joining the ASP.NET team, Stefan worked as an application development consultant in MCS.  There are presentations online where he shows how to build your own ASP.NET Provider-Based Feature and the new trust levels in ASP.NET 2.0.

Seems like there's a gazillion web frameworks out there. Which one is best? Technology zeal, emotions, subjective perspectives, self-interest, and politics often drive the decision. To clear the confusion, Ed Bukoski, Todd Ellermann, and Anthony Park decided to do their Master's thesis on a process to help make this important decision, an approach called Decision Analysis and Resolution (DAR). Come hear about their findings as they compare the strengths of Java, ColdFusion, PHP, Perl, Python, Ruby, and ASP.NET.

Elegant Phoenix Symphony Hall is an exquisite landmark in downtown Phoenix. The hall is home to The Phoenix Symphony, Arizona Opera and Ballet Arizona, as well as the site for Broadway touring companies, and appearances by popular entertainers

For those who live a little further away, we hope you find this meeting intriguing enough to hop on a plane and come out to see it. Decent hotel rooms in Phoenix are going for only $60 a night (check out the very nice 3 Palms resort in Scottsdale), and you can usually get a cheap flight from America West or Southwest, so register now and join us for this full day of world-class instruction

One of the major topics to be discussed during the day will be Microsoft Silverlight. This new technology opens up many new doors for web developers, including delivery of high definition video, development of RIAs (rich internet apps), and more. Right now you can use it with Safari, Firefox, and Internet Explorer on Apple and Windows machines. An upcoming release will also run on Linux. For more info check out http://silverlight.net/.
